The Gendarmerie Nationale launched a call for tenders to supply secure smart card readers to equip its police officers' workstations. XIRING has won this four year public sector contract that covers the supply of 40,000 secure smart card readers in 2010, and the possibility of a contract extension to cover up to 100,000 additional devices.

The XIRING solution takes the form of a secure desktop smart card reader which is connected to the workstation, with embedded software compliant with the French administration requirements. This system enables to manage access rights to the services, for which police officers have authorization, via a strong authentication process. It also offers the possibility of signing an electronic document, such as a police report.
